Let's inspire through a positive story

Public speakers are often classified into these types; Informative, Entertaining, Motivational, Persuasive, Demonstrative.

Why limit a talk to just one?

I have one goal when giving a talk; to inspire through positivity.

Look through the news and it is full of negative stories; I try to change that narrative.

I don't look at the trash in front of me, I look at the clean path behind me.

My goals are
  • Inform your audience
But not through stats or figures but through common sense that they can relate to

  • Entertain your audience
Hey, I run around town in a banana suit pick up trash. I have this one covered haha.

  • Motivate your audience
I have been a runner for 45 years and a plogger for 14 years. I do both with as my joy on my face as when I first started doing them.

  • Persuade your audience
Can I change that to inspire? My goal is to inspire people into making simple positive actions.

  • Demonstrate to your audience how
There is no A.I. here; I inspire through my own daily actions.

Here are two stories that can provide the foundation of a talk.

12 Steden Plog

A 1500km run around the Netherlands in a banana suit, picking up trash

In May this year, I ran a marathon each day in a banana suit, picking up trash.

Starting in Haarlem on May 1st, I ran to Maastricht and then up to Groningen before returning to Haarlem on 31st May,

In just one month, I covered 1,472 km

Wearing a banana suit.

Picking up trash.

Pushing a buggy weighing 40 kg.

All at the age of 58.

I took on the adventure not knowing if I could do it.

Before the start I gave myself a realistic chance of "40% likely to succeed"

But I did it.

I would love to share that story of how I did it with your audience. And especially what I learnt about myself, and about the way we can surpass our own expectations.

An adventure of a lifetime.

A journey to inspire.

Finding Happiness

The importance of asking the right question

In 2017 I asked myself a simple question, "Am I happy?"

The answer I replied was, "Yes"

After a few moments I changed the question slightly to "Am I as happy as I was last year, last month, yesterday?"

The answer changed to, "No!"

The simple rephrasing of the question changed my life.

Rather than slowly becoming less happy over time, I made a reboot.

The answer to the question is still "No!" but, more importantly, it is "No! I am happier!"

So how did I do it?

I didn't do it by looking at others. I did it by looking at myself.

Looking back at the moments that gave me joy.

Moments that filled my life with passion.

I didn't replicate them though; I wanted to learn from them.

During this talk, I share how I did it and how it benefitted my life.

Changes don't always need to be drastic, sometimes a slight course correction can make the biggest difference.
