Double PLOG Day.. a full day of cleaning up trash
#plogging #cleanup Wow.. Saturday was a hoot! A day full of cleanups! Here is what happened PLOG 1 PlogX - this is a monthly plogging club I am starting up that starts and finishes at RunX in Haarlem (https://runx.nl/winkels/haarlem/) - my favourite running shop here. HITTING RESET.. Being comfortable in your body, but still wanting to get healthier
#plogging #marathon If, like me, you have struggled with your weight, then the likelihood is that you have hit reset. Or rather, kept on hitting reset. It has taken me nearly all my life to become happy in my skin. I come from a generation where if you were overweight you were tormented, and I was the worst tormentor of all. But now I am happy to be who I am, though that doesn't mean I don't want to improve.. to lose the wibbly wobbly bits and be healthier. I have a huge goal for Amsterdam Marathon: 3:15! My PB in the marathon is 3:23 set more than a decade ago. I recently ran Rotterdam in 3:53 (though I slowed down to have fun) So how can I lose more than 30mins in 6 months? In the video I explain. Rotterdam marathon 2022.. cheering, hugging, plogging.. a great race
#plogging #demooiste #marathon Rotterdam Marathon 2022 Not the usual race report... It became clear, early on in the race, that it wasn't going to be a great time. But I wasn't going for a PB. I had done some crazy challenges already this year (like ploguary https://www.wayeoflife.com/ploguary) which meant my training was non-existent. I knew the distance would be ok, but I had no speed. Just because you don't make a time, doesn't mean you have a bad race. This is the race I am most proud of Normally I would go "ok, 3:30 isn't on today, so go for 3:45" But this time, for the first time, I didn't care about a time. It was about finishing. So I had fun. These are the three elements that made this my favourite race day; 1. Having fun with the crowd and soaking in the atmosphere 2. Plogging (I always carry some trash around with me) 3. The reality of a plogging challenge - PLOGUARY Day 16 -
PLOGUARY I was inspired by Brooks Running athlete Des Linden and her RunDestober challenge At the start of the pandemic she ran the date of the month in miles throughout October (so on the 14th October she ran 14miles, 27th = 27 miles etc) I have decided to give the challenge a plogging twist for the month of February (2022) I will plog (pick up trash while running) the date in km So for example I will plog 25km on the 25th Feb That means in the last week, I will be covering 175km! All before work! 😱😱🙈 This will be continuous plogging so it will take me around 2x longer to cover the distance So on the 28th Feb I will need to start running at 4am for example to get into work on time. With this challenge comes the reality of running in the dark and rain. Rotterdam Marathon 2021.. back to racing and race day plogging
#plogging #demooiste #marathon Rotterdam Marathon.. the 40th edition finally happened after being postponed several times. For me, it was never going to be a fast race.. I gained more wobbly bits due to the pandemic, and had been focusing on my plogging and had just completed my 100km plog www.wayeoflife.com/100km-plog So, the 3:15 target I wanted to chase will have to wait until next year. My plan was to try for 3:30 knowing that I wouldn't get it.. but hopefully ending up with 3:45. The real goal was to put a line through this past year of no racing and use it as a springboard to getting back to faster running. And of course, I had to do my race day plogging strategy: pick up a single piece of trash on the way to the start line, put it in my running belt and take it around the full race course. At the finish line I will then put it in the bin. To the litterbug I say “you couldn’t walk the 10m to the bin with it, but I just called it 42,195m and THEN PUT IT IN THE BIN FOR YOU!” Watch out for some other trash revelations I talk about too in he video Thanks to voonvoomnutrition.nl for the energy blocks. Rotterdam Harbour Run 2021
#Harbourrun #plogging #obstaclecourse omg..a race! . It's been a while since the last one! . Today I did the @harbourrunnl with work colleagues. Great fun! . Some of you who know me know that I have been heard to say . "I will never do an obstacle course!".. so why did I do an obstacle course then? . Because I didn't read the fine print.. I thought I was running just a 10k.. damnit🤦♂️🤣🤣🤣🤣 . But it doesn't matter what the race is . I always do #racedayplogging .. this is where I pick up a piece of trash to the start line and take it around with me for the whole race. . The race was great fun!.. I might just sign up next year! haha . Hopefully then I will be able to get over an obstacle.. clearly the 100kmplog was more of a toll on my triceps than I realized. when I tried to get over a wall, I jumped and then feel backwards 🤣🤣🤣🤣

A plogger is someone who picks up trash while jogging. Here is a shortish set of clips from the day.. not a final film.. just a quick one to watch for now. Hopefully, it will give you a sense of what the day meant to me. . The start and end were in the dark.. so for this set of clips, I focused on the daylight hours.. so you don't see me finish in this film.. but I did haha . No overlayed music. Raw (hopefully the music you hear will not get it taken down but it was what we were listening to). . I don't know where begin. I will be telling stories for ages. . It was tough!.. a long long day. The schedule went out the window.. I finished nearly 4 hours later. but that was a combination of wanting to collect as much as we could, chatting to people and it being a lot harder than I thought it would be haha. . * I call it entire way but towards the end I rotated between plogging, walking and running.. . I am struggling with energy a bit today.. so it is going to take time for me to respond. . Thank you to the people who tagged me with rubbish they collected on the day..
